U.S. conducts airstrikes against Iran-backed groups in Syria, retaliating for attacks on U.S. troops
Recently, some groups in Iraq, operating together as the Islamic Resistance, have attacked bases where U.S. soldiers are stationed in Iraq and Syria. In response, the U.S. military carried out airstrikes in eastern Syria, targeting places used by Iranian-backed groups. These strikes happened for the third time in just over two weeks.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin explained that the President's top priority is the safety of U.S. personnel. The strikes aimed at locations near Abukama and Mayadin, which were linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps and militias supported by Iran.
A U.S. official mentioned that one of the sites also stored weapons. This information was shared anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the military operation.
Since October 17, these militant groups, affiliated with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, have been responsible for almost 50 attacks on bases where U.S. personnel are stationed in Iraq and Syria. The U.S. has taken action to defend its personnel and interests.
The attacks began on the same day as a powerful explosion in a Gaza hospital, leading to protests in several Muslim nations. The Israeli military had been responding to a significant incident involving Hamas in southern Israel on October 7. Some groups have expressed their intention to retaliate against the U.S. for supporting Israel in its conflict with Hamas.
According to the Pentagon, around 56 U.S. personnel have been injured in the attacks in Syria and Iraq. However, all of them have recovered and returned to duty. The injuries include traumatic brain injuries and other minor wounds. We kindly request you to disseminate this news and provide your insights in the comments section. Thank you
