Donald Trump vows to kill Asia trade deal being pursued by Joe Biden if elected

Donald Trump, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, said on Saturday that if he wins the 2024 election and goes back to the White House, he would stop a trade agreement called the Pacific trade pact. This trade pact is being worked on by the current President, Joe Biden.

Trump spoke to his supporters in Iowa and explained that he doesn't like the trade deal because he thinks it will hurt American manufacturing and cause people to lose their jobs.

The trade talks about the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) are not going smoothly. This framework is supposed to be an option for countries in the region instead of relying too much on China for trade. Some countries, like Vietnam and Indonesia, are not agreeing to certain rules about labor and the environment.

Trump mentioned that he left a similar trade deal, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), when he became President in 2017. He now wants to stop what he calls "TPP Two" if he becomes President again in 2024.

According to Trump, the Biden administration's plan for "TPP Two" would be finished right away if he wins. He believes it's even worse than the first one and would harm farmers and manufacturers by sending more jobs to Asia.

The Biden administration was hoping to complete important parts of the trade agreement before a meeting called the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). However, because of challenges from some countries and the upcoming elections, experts think it's unlikely that the deal will be made soon.
