Yemen’s Houthis say they launched ballistic missiles, drones at Israel

Israeli military says it destroyed an unidentified ‘aerial target’ and separately intercepted surface-to-surface missile over the Red Sea.

Yemen's Houthi rebels recently said they launched many ballistic missiles and drones towards Israel. They've warned that more attacks may happen in the future. The Israeli military confirmed that they destroyed an unidentified flying object over the Red Sea, and they also intercepted a missile aimed at their territory in the Red Sea using their "Arrow" defense system. This incident caused alarm in the Red Sea tourist city of Eilat, with air raid sirens going off, and people seeking shelter.

Yemen’s Houthis at Israel

The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, mentioned that this was their third attempt to target Israel, and they threatened further strikes until what they call "Israeli aggression" stops. A Houthi official claimed that they sent drones from Yemen towards southern Israel.

These events are happening at a time when there's already tension due to the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. It's concerning for Israel because they are also dealing with conflicts involving Iran-backed Hezbollah in the north.

There were previous incidents involving drones in the Red Sea near the Israeli border, and on October 7, Hamas fired a rocket toward Eilat. The U.S. military reported intercepting projectiles launched by Houthis in the Red Sea, which could have been headed towards Israel.

Tensions in the region have been escalating since the October 7 attack by Hamas inside Israel. Israel has been increasing its airstrikes and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip. Both sides have reported casualties, with a higher number in Gaza, according to Gaza officials.
