US warship intercepts missiles fired from Yemen 'potentially towards Israel'

A US Navy ship stopped missiles and drones that were fired from Yemen, possibly towards Israel. This happened in the northern Red Sea. The US is watching closely because groups supported by Iran are active, and Israel is attacking Hamas in Gaza.

The Pentagon's Brigadier General Patrick Ryder said they stopped three cruise missiles and some drones. No one got hurt, and it seems like the ship wasn't the main target.

"We can't be sure where these missiles and drones were going, but they came from Yemen and were heading north along the Red Sea, possibly towards Israel," a US official told the media.

The US has sent two aircraft carriers, around 2,000 marines, and support ships to the Middle East in the past week.

Brig Ryder also said they are still gathering information about what happened. "We acted to protect our people and partners from any threat in the region," he said. "This attack might still be happening, so if we find out more, we will let you know."
