Mike Pence: Former US Vice President withdraws from 2024 presidential race
Former US Vice President Mike Pence has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race, saying "this is not my time".
Mike Pence, who used to be the Vice President of the United States, has said he won't run for President in the 2024 election. He explained this decision at an event in Las Vegas.
He said, "I know this would be a tough fight, but I have no regrets." That means he knew it would be hard, but he's okay with his choice.
Mike Pence is the first big Republican candidate to stop trying to become President in 2024.
Many people weren't supporting him in recent polls, and he had a lot of money problems. He had $621,000 in debt, and only $1.2 million in the bank. That's much less money than other Republicans running for President.
In a message to his supporters, he said, "I'm leaving this campaign, but I'll keep fighting for conservative values." That means he won't stop supporting the ideas he believes in.
A lot of Republicans stopped supporting him when he disagreed with former President Donald Trump. This happened after the Capitol riot in January 2021, and when he confirmed Joe Biden's win in the 2020 election.
Trump criticized Pence for not being "brave" when he didn't try to change the election results.
During the riot at the Capitol, some people were heard saying they wanted to harm Mike Pence. Since then, many people who like Trump think he betrayed them.
In March, Pence said Trump's words had put his family and everyone at the Capitol in danger.
In his announcement, Mike Pence didn't support any other Republican candidates for President. But he asked Americans to choose a leader who will be kind and follow the principles that have made America strong.
Pence's decision came just before the third presidential debate on November 8th. This debate is where candidates talk about their ideas and try to convince people to vote for them.
